When I read a translated text, without understanding the language of origin, I am getting something other than the full story. The differences from a text in one language to its translated partner in another are significant, however slight. The drawings in translations are a first attempt to reconcile these hang-ups with my unwillingness to read only texts written in English. On one hand I am addressing my discomfort by mapping the obvious textual differences between translations, and on the other, I recognize through this mapping that the combined translations yield consistency in form.

The drawings are derived from the printed text of The Autumn Wind, A Selection from the Poems of Issa, translated by Lewis Mackenzie (first paperback edition, 1984). Each drawing is 5"x8" - there are 250 in total.
